A history

Tarani, a Gallic potter born in the first century AD, learned his trade from his father-in-law, himself a famous Roman potter. His production of fine quality ceramics and amphora made him rich. He set up his first business near Gaillac in Montans, where many of his amphora have been discovered by archaeologists, all with with the “Tarani” inscription. This discovery proves that there was an organised wine trade during Roman times.
