Heat, frost, hail: South-West viticulture facing climate change

ADEME has just highlighted a reality that wine growers are already living: climate change is profoundly transforming French agriculture.

Rising temperatures, late frosts, droughts, heavy rainfall… These hazards are no longer exceptional. They are altering the vine's growth cycles, impacting yields and disrupting the organisation of wine estates.adapter la vigne au changement climatique

Concrete impacts on the vine

Milder winters are bringing forward bud break, making vines more vulnerable to frost.
Hotter summers are accelerating ripening and influencing the balance of the grapes.
Extreme weather events are weakening soils and increasing disease pressure.
Faced with these rapid changes, adaptation has become a strategic priority.

CLIMAVIGNE.SO : anticipating rather than reacting

In the South-West, Vinovalie is taking action through the CLIMAVIGNE.SO project.

The aim: to identify climate vulnerabilities up to 2035 and support our wine growers with concrete action plans:

  • Analysis of soils, water and plot exposure
  • Adjustment of farming practices
  • Selection of more resilient plant material
  • Consideration of irrigation and agroforestry

A collective approach to preserve the quality, typicity and sustainability of our wines. Because adapting today means protecting the vintages of tomorrow.
