The Guide Hachette des Vins
 

The Guide Hachette des Vins has been listing a selection of the best French wines and estates for over 30 years. Now a must-have for wine lovers, the guide has become a benchmark in terms of wine purchases.

How are the wines selected ?
 

Each year, for each new edition of the Guide Hachette, 10,000 wines are selected from among 40,000 wines tasted. The wines that are tasted are submitted by the producers. Each producer submits samples that he wants to see tasted.  The tasting sessions are done by professional tasting panels for each appellation and the last vintage bottled is evaluated.

The wines are blind tasted by the group 
 

The wines are tasted blind by juries composed of several tasters: the tasters, all professionals from the world of wine, do not know the names of the producers or the wines, or of the vintages they are tasting. Only the appellation and the year of the wine are known to them at the time of the tastings.

The principles of wine scoring 
 

The wines are described (colour, olfactory, taste and aromatic qualities) and scored by the tasters on a scale of 0 to 5.

Score = 0 : the wine has a defect. It is eliminated and will not appear in the Guide Hachette des Vins
Score = 1 : the wine is average, it does not have great qualities. It is eliminated and will not appear in the Guide Hachette des Vins
Score = 2 : the wine is a success. It will be listed (without a star) in the Guide Hachette
Score = 3 : the wine is a great success. He will get 1 star in the Guide Hachette
Score = 4 : the wine is remarkable. He will get 2 stars in the Guide Hachette
Score = 5 : the wine is exceptional. It will get 3 stars in the Guide Hachette.
